That's what I get for reading Disney trip reports to DH.
Every night before bed I open my laptop and pick someone's trip report to read. So, last night I read a really good trip report from another board and got into the part where they described their time at 50's Prime. Let's just say it didn't put DH to sleep this time. He didn't like the part where "mom" made a little girl get on her knees to pick up the pieces of rice from off the floor that she had dropped while eating. The little girl then says to her mom "Mommy, I want to leave now." There were many more examples of this in said trip report which I will not bore you with.
So anyway, my DH is dead set against going to 50's Prime because he sees no humor in be chastised and being made fun of while trying to eat supper. Talk about a major party pooper. We've never been before and I'm the type to pick new places to eat each time we go with the exception of LTT so I'm kind of bumbed that we have to do Sci-Fi again since it's the only ADR I could get at 11:15am for that day. I canceled the 50's Prime so it's now bye bye.
In writing all of that and to help make me feel better...tell me your experience and tell me how much fun you guys had at 50s Prime as I will not be able to go their with my family unless DH stays home which will be never.
Re: Traded in my 50's Prime for another Sci-Fi (blah)
I've been once, and it is kinda cute for the first 10 minutes of being told to wash your hands, keep your elbows off the tables, eat your veggies. After awhile, it does get old, and some of the CMs here really do get a little too into it, such as sittin down at your table spoonfeeding veggies to you or someone else who's hardly touched them. To make you feel better, I enjoyed Sci Fi much better than Prime Time.

We have a great time when we go here, sorry. The funniest time was when my uncle, self-proclaimed macho man, had to stand up and sing "I'm a little Teapot" in the middle of the restaurant, because he either didn't finish his meal, or he kept putting his elbows on the table. I can't remember which right now. We laugh about it to this day.

You have to remember people are writing on their experience you never know the whole story. Maybe it was just one CM that went to far you shouldn't change your mind over one trip report about something. I would say to DH lets try it one more time and see what you think then next time don't go. I was at the 50's last Feb. enjoyed it very much. Next trip in Dec. going to try Sci-Fi.
Re: Traded in my 50's Prime for another Sci-Fi (blah)
My hubby and I decided to try the 50's Primetime during one of our last trips. He is a big Sci-Fi fan, but after eating here he says it is now his favorite place in the Studios ... but only for the atmosphere, not really for the food.
I was really looking forward to eating here but I have to say I was unimpressed.
We had onion rings for an appetizer. They were very greasy and way too much batter. I had the meatloaf and thought it was kind of gross. My husband had the chicken pot pie. He said it okay ... but extremely salty.
To me it was not a comfortable atmosphere to be in because the tables are sooo close to each other. It had been a busy day for them because it was Columbus Day. The place was rather messy ... lots of food under tables.
Try not to feel too bad about not getting to eat here, there is always next time.
Re: Traded in my 50's Prime for another Sci-Fi (blah)
we ate there a few years ago. i thought it was good. i didn't finish my greenbeans so the CM asked everyone for their attention and informed them of this. She then put a bunch on my fork, had everyone make an airplane noise and fed them to me. my kids still laugh about this and want to go back there. I laughed along with it too. Another CM had 3 men up and singing 'i'm a little teapot' and she had another man standing in the corner. it's all in good fun. although i don't think my husband would have liked it if he was the butt of the joke. hope this helps
Re: Traded in my 50's Prime for another Sci-Fi (blah)
I honestly actually like Sci-Fi alot more than 50s Prime Time.
The atmostphere in Sci-Fi is just much more unique, and I actually do like the food there just as much as 50s Prime Time's.
So as Arny said, you're in Walt Disney World, so you'll have a great time anyways.
Make sure to get a chocolate shakes while at Sci-Fi as well.
