On our first trip to WDW in 2007 my daughter and I shared almost every meal we ate in the park, except the Character meal. This time we are staying onsite and will be eating more meals in the park and at the hotels. Aside from the Character dining and buffets do they have restrictions on sharing meals at the table service restaurants? Does anyone know?

As far as i remember you can only share with a child if they are under 3. I believe that there is a sharing charge otherwise. I would call Disney Dining or one of the wonderful folks from our sponsor Magical Travel and see if they are able to definitively answer your question.
I know that there's a good way to get a "shared" meal by buying a double burger and then buying a separate bun. Take one of the meat patties out of the double burgers and drop it in the extra bun....two burgers for the price of one (and a bun)!
As far as the buffets, I would take Jeff's advice and call Dining on that one.
Portions are huge, whether fast food or five star dining. There is no extra charge for sharing, and you will often be brought an extra plate and perhaps an extra salad or side item as well. If two people in your party have small to medium sized appetites, sharing is definitely the way to go.
I saw a bunch of other posts on some other boards that agree with the above.
We normally don't eat that much, especially when portions are Huge. We normally try to get light meals or just one entree each and no appetizer, no dessert. But I wonder if we do the Disney Meal Plan, will we have tons of left overs? We'll have our DD who will still be 2 during the trip so she'll share. It might make sense for us to get the lowest Disney Dining option where we get 2 meals and I think 1 snack a day. We would probably do a buffet breakfast at a late time and then dinner. If we did without the meal plan we would be sharing what we could.
