Reply to threads and posts via e-mail?

WDBers,

I know that some of you have been or still are members on e-mail groups like Yahoo.com groups. In those groups, you can sometimes reply via e-mail and it posts to the actual group.

I've been researching a modification to the site where I can have it setup so that those of you that don't necessarily visit the site as often as you'd like to (or are blocked from visiting at work, for instance) can reply to a post / thread via e-mail.

Is that something that would be good to add to the site, you think?

I could get this modification at no cost...I like free!

It's just a matter of the more modifications we add to the site, the more the potential for slower load times on the pages, etc. That's why I try and take out a major modification before adding a major modification. Or, take out a couple of minor ones before adding a major one.

So, with a couple of modifications that I'm looking to remove (WDBTube and another one yet to be determined...more than likely 'behind the scenes' stuff ) ....I was looking at this as a possible additional feature of the site.

I'm also working on the 'mobile' style to be installed and that should be happening within the next couple of weeks. But, I digress.

So, is this something that anyone would/could use?

I think it'd help those that have a hard time getting to the site and posting while their at work due to filters and such. It's a great idea that probably wouldn't be used as often, but would be a big help for those who can't get to the boards.

That's what I was thinking AP. Also, for those that have the mobile devices, they can keep in touch with us by replying via e-mail.

I think that I'll continue to do more research on this one. But, it seems like it might be a positive thing for us.

This would be really AWESOME for me. You know that I love to mobile blog. Well, the way I get stuff to my blog is via email. I could just as easily email photos here.

My next trip to WDW is December 13-14-15. Do you think you could have it up and running by then?

I'm still working on the mobile style to be added (and starting to do some research into SMS capabilities), but slowly but surely we'll get there

I think SMS is text only. You want MMS, or else email with attachments. Which would mean you'd have to host the pics. But there might be other ways.

For instance, when I was mobile blogging on Blogger, well that was part of my Google account and the photos that I MMSed or emailed to the blog ended up hosted in my Picasa account. Now that I am self hosted on Word Press, I have to use a pass through to get things to the blog. I can use Flickr or Utterli or any other service that will accept the email/MMS AND auto-post to the blog for me.

So maybe you can look into that, making a forum on this board that will allow Flickr or some such to log in and post. That way the pic stays on Flickr, and what you get here is a post with a link.
