I went over to the TTC last night and watched the show from there with Scott Thomas and Bob Desmond. I learned a couple of things from Bob, and I think got some of my best fireworks photos to date. I am going to put a couple here, but for those that want to see the rest of them, you can go to my stream and see the rest under Disney Fireworks.
Yeah the one thing with fireworks and photos that you can't do in person is catch these streaks. I mean you see them happen, but you follow a glowing ball of fire, and there is no trail. The camera catches the trail but it leaves a mark! LOL! So you get the really cool fire trails instead of the vanishing ball. I took some others last night in the MK of Wishes! I used a wide angle lens and shot from the bridge at the end of Main Street just before you get to the hub.
I should be packing right now cause I am taking my son camping tonight and tomorrow with the cub scouts, but I will post my images early next week.
Thanks for the compliments. I really appreciate them.
Nice pics Jeff. about a 4-5 second shutter speed? and 1200 iso? Just a guess, but there is good saturation in those pics. Also did you use a tripod or did you shoot from the top of a rail or something to get the camera to be so still? I have found that using the timer helps really get it crisp because your finger pushing the button will sometimes wobble the camera just enough to give a hint of blur. These look great. Tell you secrets.
Jim, I was using a tripod and my remote release. As for the settings, I was at f22, 8 second shutter at iso 100. The low iso allows for a nice crisp photo, and since you are shooting from a tripod you don't have to worry about the motion. I was using my 75-300mm lens, but on my camera with the crop factor that I have I was shooting mostly at the equivalent of 120mm.
