i want something that will zoom fairly decent w/out getting blurry pics, and i don't need the mega pixels to be extremely high, i only print out 4x6 pics, kwim?
and also something fairly reasonable in price, i really can't shell out 200.00+
i know i am asking for a lot with little money, but can anyone help?
I can totally field this question if you trust me. I bought a Kodak EasyShare camera in November of 2007 (about 85 dollars), and it worked FANTASTIC. I can't rave enough about how clear the pictures were, how usable the interface was...and how easily the pictures transferred to my computer. Sadly, it was stolen at Aquatica while I was on vacation. This past Thanksgiving (2008) I stood in line for like, five hours to get a 10 mega pixel Samsung (At 120 dollars). And it's just awful! I've already had to send it away twice to get fixed because the shutter doesn't close properly. Not to mention, the customer service and shipping the camera all over was a complete nightmare. Samsung may excel at a few things, but I definitely don't think cameras is one of them. I STRONGLY recommend the Kodak EasyShare 8.0 megapixel camera. It comes in a few colors, if you care to choose one, but it was the most versatile and practical camera I ever owned.
Clear, easy to take, easy to print pictures.

ok 1 question, i am not tech. savy when it comes to megapixels and optical zooms etc.
but how is the optical zoom on it?
for example: if i am standing in front of Cinderellas castle (not right up at the front of the stage but sorta in the middle) watching a show () i want to be able to zoom in a take a nice decent face shot of Cinderella, of course if she is standing fairly close to the front of the stage, and i am in the middle, kwim?
can you help me out w/that?
I am currently using a Canon SX110 IS. It has 10x optical zoom and I love it. It's a little above your price range, according to Amazon - around $270 for new or $199 for used. If you want an example of the zoom, look at my post for yesterday on my blog.
The first pic, I'm zoomed in on the peak of Expedition Everest. The second pic, you can see that I was standing far away - I think I actually was across the lagoon, in the seating area behind the Flame Tree BBQ place.
That should give you an idea if 10x is what you want, or could you get away with less (and therefore, a less expensive camera).
My 10 mega pixel has 5X zoom...But my 8 mega pixel only had 3X zoom. Still, I think the pictures I took with it were amazing. And, as I said before, it's under 100.00, comes with a memory card, mine even came with a case.
Too bad it didn't come with an anti-theft alarm system
I would say go to a shop and feel which one is the most comfortable in your hand take a memory card with you take a few shots go home and view them before making your choice.
