Fresh off her Vanity Fair scandal concerning photos that were deemed 'inappropriate' for a fifteen year old to be posing for, Disney employee
Miley Cyrus has been hit by another blow of negative press.
Many quarters of the blogsphere blew up with claims that the singer, who also goes by the name of
Hannah Montana had ripped off large portions of a song by L.A band
Lustra for her new song "
Rockstar".
Yes yes, we know, another week, another claim by an unknown band that somebody more famous than them is ripping them off in order to gain exposure. The twist is, that the track in question "
Scotty Doesn't Know" was prominent in the Dreamworks' film "
Eurotrip" which featured
Matt Damon and
Kristin Kreuk in a performance of the song. (visually at least)
Lustra were alerted to the similarities between the two songs by fans. Upon listening to Cyrus' version the bandmates claim the tunes are virtually the same - with separate lyrics.
In response to the alleged infringement, the band replied, "
Although we are very flattered that Ms. Cyrus took this route, we would have preferred some credit. [Also, we'd like to add] if (Vanity Fair photographer) Annie Liebovitz is interested in photographing us nearly nude we are certainly open to it and we look forward to her call."
A spokesman for the band added dryly, "
The immediate solution is to minimise leaks, and keep all future recordings in a vault, under extreme security."
Cyrus' response to the controversy has pretty much been '
I don't write the songs, it's got nothing to do with me'.
