“The Little Mermaid” Broadway musical was nominated this morning for two Tony Awards.

Disney Theatrical Productions and Thomas Schumacher produced the stage realization of the Disney film and the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. The musical played for seven weeks at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in 2007 before opening on Broadway.

The musical was nominated this morning for two Tony Awards:

• Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre: music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater.
• Best Lighting Design of a Musical: by Natasha Katz

I was fortunate to be able to see this show in NY just after opening, and what a fantastic show it is!!! Deserving of much more that 2 nominations. I do have to warn that it is different that the movie if that is what you might expect, but in my humble opinion, the changes were brilliant and only enhanced the characters!
