Disney employees are trading pounds for pounds. As part of a weight-loss challenge, the Disneyland Resort has pledged to donate a pound of food for every pound that employees lose. The company signed up about 1,000 employees, said David Gill, a resort spokesman.Just by signing up for the 10-week program, the company agreed to donate one pound of food to the Orange County Food Bank.
Employee Karen Marshall said the Disneyland Resort Weight Loss Challenge comes at a key time.
She had already planned on trying to lose weight before her 40th high school reunion and a niece’s wedding, both in September.
“This is the motivation I needed to get rid of those 10 extra pounds you have and have some accountability,” said Marshall, 58, a Disneyland Resort guest communications assistant.
Disney also is offering nutrition guides, yoga classes and athletic teams to help employees.
The donations will come at a critical time for the Orange County Food Bank, which has seen demand double in the past year while donations have failed to keep up. Read a full story here.
The food bank linked up for a similar program with law-enforcement agencies, but there were far fewer employees involved, said Mark Lowry, the food bank director.
“It’s a great example of how cast members who may have enough can share with those who have too little,” Lowry said.
