You get a surprise that you are going to get to stay at Disney for a few days that you didn't plan on? We are going to Florida to look at colleges for my daughter and my wife suggests to me that while we are so close we should just take a couple of days and got to Disney, while we are there. She didn't have to ask twice. I was on the phone and made the reservations immediately. For those of you who debate if DVC is worth it or not, that is why it is worth it. We didn't have to come up with extra lodging money, it's already part of the annual budget, we just just used some of the points. The money we were going to spend on hotel gets used to buy park passes instead, and it is a net zero cost in cashflow. I love that we are going to be able to do that. Staying in Kidani Villa's in Animal Kingdom for the first time. Very excited. Made my month.
Congrats Jim. Wish my kids had considered a college down there. Let me know how you like Animal Kingdom. We are staying there for the first time in Nov.

I so want to get in on the DVC!! I know I live here in FL and only 6 hours away but I am going to have to really look into it. I am also a season pass holder so that would be even better. We are going in June so I may take a tour!
We have loved ours. We got into it a few years ago when we wanted to take a big vacation at Christmas with my sister and her family. When we looked at the cost of what it would take to stay as a group it was a pretty big number. When we started looking at DVC and how much it would cost to get in, it was not very much difference from just the one time trip at Christmas (because of the higher cost of going there at Christmas). Since we knew we would always want to go every few years, we just did the math and figured that even with an increased annual fee, it would still be less than paying for each trip. That only works out if you are staying in the expensive places like Bay Lake, Boardwalk, and the other so called high end resorts. You can do Disney for much less with Pop and Port Orleans, etc. They are great places. Disney doesn't really do anything bad, which is why we love Disney. For us it was that we loved The Boardwalk because it is a short walk or boat ride to two of the parks. That is pure convenience and less time in transit. Since we liked there so much we estimated that it would be less money after three trips to own DVC. That is just what works for us. There are pros and cons to it, so make sure it works for you. In this case, it really worked out well because, I didn't have to come out of pocket tomorrow for the hotel. It's kind of like an escrow for your Disney vacation. If I had to pay for it when I was there next week, I probably would not be going....no, I definitely would not be going.
If only DH would actually come around on the DVC thing. Last trip in Oct he was willing to take the tour but we were leaving the next morning. He did say that our next trip we will take time to go with them and just look. I am getting closer, but I fear that it will never actually happen for me. WOE IS ME!!!!!!!!!!
That is exciting!!!!! I love spur of the moment Disney trips!
