Hello, My husband is in the guard and we're also DVC members. Last Dec. we went to Disney and used the 5 day park hoppers that were given to service members and their dependants. However, this year, the military tickets are only valid until Sept. 30 and we've already booked our trip for Dec. 11-18 this year. This year they changed it to 4 days on the military tickets instead of 5. I've booked our trip with 5 days for the parks... so I'm left with one day of no parks. Yes, I could find something else to do, but I really like having the option of getting into the parks everyday Of course, this is all providing that they extend the military tickets this year. I've researched a few options but I know people here probably have a better idea of how to go about this. Considering we'll probably be back within a year; I'm open to annual passes as well. Also... I know last year they extended the military tickets to the end of the year. Has anyone heard any info on the chances of this happening again? What would be my best options if they DO extend the military tickets through Dec or if they do NOT? I;ve heard of people buying smaller tickets and then upgrading to annual passes on your last day, but I do not understand all of this. Thanks so much for your help! April

I know from last year it was for the whole year as we went in Dec 2009. Can't beat that offer. I don't like the idea of only base tickets they are offering this year but that is how I feel. I am not sure how long you can hold on to them maybe you can transfer over to an AP when you go. I assume your husband can go into a MWR branch like Henderson Hall & purchase your tickets there as you live in Washington DC. I live in Woodbridge Va but prefer gettin my tickets at Marine headquarters at Henderson Hall but prefer shopping at Q-Town lol. Can you call Disney & ask? I know I did but I had the 40% off the room & I got my ticket thru Disney as I didn't want just the base tickets & they wouldn't let me upgrade them to PH. Maybe someone else can help you out.
BTW are you on the Dis boards as well? Just asking

Oh how cool!! You're right up the road! Yes... My husband gets out tickets at Andrews. DH is a pilot for the congressman and senators. Actually.. .funny thing happened to us last year....I thought I had read over on Disboards (last year) that the military families got 5 days and that this could be done a TOTAL of 5 times a year! Anyway.... when we went to Disney last Sept., DH got our 5 day hoppers at Andrews AFB. Well, when we went in Dec., DH went to the base the week before we left and the person in travel office told him that they had to be purchased at least 2 week in advance so we ended up just purchasing them at DTD when we arrived. We went to DTD and bought our tickets with no problems. Well, as you remember, in Dec. there was a blizzard here in D.C. and the airports closed down. The Blizzard hit the night before we left Disney. We ended up not being able to leave for 2 days. Thankfully, the DVC was wonderful and found us a room at SSR for the 2 extra nights. Anyway, during those 2 extra days, a friend of mine came to Disney and wanted to know if we could meet up with her. So... we went back to DTD and thought we could get another 5 days... the CM told us that we could only use that one time a year. OOOOPS... I could've sworn I read over on the Dis that it could be done a total of 5 times a year. LOL! Apparently the military ticket system and Disney's system are not linked, because we were able to get the deal twice between Sept. and Dec. I honestly had no idea we were not supposed to be doing that. Hey, I have a BA in criminology... I don't break rules! We ended up just buying a one day, one park ticket for each of us and it was $230 just for that day.
Yes... last Sept. (before we joined DVC) we stayed at the Poly and used the 40% off and purchsed the dining plan, but DH got our tickets at the base (Andrew's). It was still pretty $$$ for the room. DH took a tour of BLT during our Sept. visit and we joined a month after we returned home. I just disappointed in the tickets only be 4 days.... It sort of seems like they're forcing you into not even using that deal and just upgrading. Yes, I'm on Dis ( I mostly just read), but I really do not post over there... it seems like it gets really nasty just for asking a simple question. Thanks so much for your help "neighbor"! April
April hear you on the Dis boards ! They can get nasty even if you ask a simple question lol.
Actually I live south of y'all Oh how I remember last Dec, we missed the snow storm as we got back from Disney on the 12th of Dec. I was very happy that we made it home as I got sick the last two days we were there. Just wanted to be home & in my own bed.
I also assume you could have stayed more than once last year under that offer. Disney travel joked with me if I wanted to book another one before we left. My husband said three times was enough (two together, & one solo) We stay at the BWI Club level when we get a great discount but if we don't we stay there no matter what. That or the WL. I think after going back down in 2011 (meeting some friends from the UK) it will be our last for awhile.
