AH, Disney, what’s not to love, eh? Happy endings and cute, cuddly, marketable toys are de rigueur, but when all is said and done, Disney would be absolutely nothing without those magical songs that highlight so many of its movies.

And, now, we have a collection of 42 songs – some really wonderful ones – from the various Disney movies. Of course, considering Disney has made nearly 40 feature-length animated movies alone, there are going to be disappointments when it comes to song selection.

Sometimes they get it just right (Pinocchio’s When You Wish Upon a Star and Give a Little Whistle are both here as are the two most popular songs from The Jungle Book, The Bare Necessities and I Wanna Be Like You).

Recent faves are well-represented with three songs from High School Musical, as well as requisite tunes from The Lion King, Mulan and Pocohontas. Other standouts include the excellent Go the Distance from Hercules, the timeless Some Day My Prince Will Come from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and a real tear-jerker in Baby Mine (that scene in Dumbo when he visits his mother who’s behind bars).

However, it’s hard to please everyone: there are three tracks from Beauty and the Beast but not the title one. Mary Poppins has A Spoonful of Sugar and Chim Chim Cher-ee but not Supercalliwhateveryoumacallit. Still, I’m not going to rain on this parade. Disney rocks, and this is an awesome way to sample it.
