Fact for the Day
There is a "hidden floor" in the main building of Walt Disney World's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. It is used by celebrities, newly married couples and others who want total privacy.

1927 - The Alice Comedy Alice the Collegiate, with Margie Gay, is released.

1935 - In the north of Spain, the third of the European Disney weeklies, Mickey – Revista Infantil Ilustrada (which means Mickey – Illustrated Child Magazine) is published by Editorial Molino.

1941 - Disney's Donald Duck short Golden Eggs is released. Having a hard time harvesting eggs from the henhouse, Donald goes in disguise as a hen to get them!

1942 - Michael Eisner, who will run The Walt Disney Company from 1984 to 2005, is born in Mount Kisco, New York (though he will be raised in New York City.)

1946 - The 1945 Academy Awards are held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre with hosts Bob Hope and James Stewart. Walt Disney Studio Sound Department (nominated for The Three Caballeros) loses to RKO's The Bell's of Saint Mary in the Sound Recording category. Although nominated for Short Subjects, Cartoon - Disney's Donald's Crime is beat out by MGM's Quiet Please.

1955 - The Emmy Awards for 1954 are presented. An Emmy for Best Individual Program of the Year, goes to the Disneyland television episode "Operation Undersea." A second Emmy (Best Television Film Editing) goes to Lynn Harrison and Grant K. Smith for their work on the Disneyland TV series. Walt's Disneyland series also wins for Best Variety Series Including Musical Variety.

1956 - The Disneyland television series airs episode 43 - "On Vacation," in which Jimminy Cricket takes a look at the friendship of Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Donald Duck.

1962 - Singer-actress Taylor Dayne, who was featured in Disney's Broadway show Aida, (and who has appeared at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney, Florida) is born Leslie Wunderman in Baldwin, New York.

1980 - Singer TJ Fantini, a member of Disney Channel's The All New Mickey Mouse Club, is born in Belleville, Illinois.

1997 - Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean reopens after being renovated.

1997 - Disney releases Jungle 2 Jungle starring Tim Allen, Lolita Davidovich, JoBeth Williams, and Martin Short.

2001 - Disney's Jungle Adventures On Ice swings into the Minneapolis Target Center.

2005 - Film producer, writer and director Debra Hill (known for such classics as Halloween) passes away in Los Angeles, California. In 1988, Hill signed a contract with Walt Disney Pictures for her Debra Hill Productions and produced the 1989 feature Gross Anatomy, short films for Disney theme parks and an NBC special for Disneyland's 35th anniversary.

2005 - It is announced that the Disney-based Mandeville Films (who are shooting The Shaggy Dog a sequel to the Shaggy Disney films of the past) will start production on a new Swiss Family Robinson feature in September at the Queenslands Warner Roadshow Studios in Australia.

2006 - Walt Disney Records releases That's So Raven Too, a collection from and inspired by the hit Disney Channel Original television series.

2006 - Disney's 1959 black-and-white The Shaggy Dog (starring Fred Mac Murray) and the 1976 follow-up The Shaggy D.A. (starring Dean Jones) are both released to DVD.

2008 - In a ceremony prior to the park's opening, Disney Legend Bob Gurr receives a window on Disneyland's Main Street USA. Gurr's Disneyland designs include the Autopia, the Monorail, Omnimovers, and the Main Street Vehicles.

2008 - Walt Disney Pictures releases the comedy feature College Road Trip. When an overachieving high school student (played by Raven-Symonι) decides to travel around the country to choose the perfect college, her overprotective cop father (played by Martin Lawrence) decides to accompany her in order to keep her on the straight and narrow. This comical adventure also features Brenda Song, Donny Osmond, and Will Sasso.
